The ice cream cone-tatted rapper hits the strip club to celebrate his freedom. False reports of Gucci Mane’s release from prison this holiday weekend arose, but records indicate that the rapper is still locked up. MTV reports that the rapper, who is serving time for a battery charge alleging that he shoved a female passenger from his moving vehicle, is still being held in the pen but will be release sometime this week. In 2005, Gucci skated on a murder charge due to insufficient evidence from prosecutors, and has served prison time regarding assault and drug charges. This past March, he released a 1017 Brick Squad street album titled The Return of Mr. Zone 6. [July 4] UPDATE: MTV.com reports that Gucci was supposed to be released today, but is still incarcerated due to “procedural holdups.” “We are hoping that Mr. Davis is released today,” said Ashutosh Joshi, Gucci’s lawyer. “He is scheduled to be released from Fulton County Jail. However, there are some procedural holdups between the county jail and the state prison as to whether Mr. Davis has to go back to the state prison before he can be released.” Joshi has an order from a Fulton county judge that guarantees his release, but there are current instructions in place to send him to Jackson State Prison for his official liberation. “There is an order from a Fulton County judge requiring that Mr. Davis serve his time at a Fulton County jail,” he continued. “So it is our hope and belief that once the county jail and the state prison are able to communicate — which we understand is occurring today, and once the state prison is aware of the judge’s order, that they will remove or release any hold they have on Mr. Davis and he can be physically released from the Fulton County Jail.” [July 5] |
