At last night’s (February 13) 53rd annual Grammy awards, Hip Hop was of course a noticeable presence but seemed to miss out on the Grammy’s most notable awards. B.o.B (“Nothin’ On You”), Eminem (“Love The Way You Lie”), Cee Lo Green (“Fuck You”), and Jay-Z (“Empire State Of Mind”) all lost Record of the Year to Tennessee country group Lady Antebellum (“Need You Now”). Lady Antebellum also beat out Cee Lo Green’s “Fuck You” and Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie” for Song of the Year. Eminem was unable to beat rocker’s Arcade Fire to secure an Album of the Year Grammy for Recovery and rapper/singer Drake lost Best New Artist to jazz musician Esperanza Spalding. It wasn’t all losses at the Grammy’s, producer Danger Mouse beat out Dr. Luke, Rob Cavallo, RedOne, and The Smeezingtons to clench the Grammy for Producer of the Year (Non-classical). Other Grammy winners included Eminem for Best Rap Album, John Legend and The Roots for Traditional R&B Vocal Performance, Eminem for Rap Solo Performance, Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz for Rap Performance by a Duo or Group, and Jay-Z and Alicia Keys for Rap/Sung Collaboration and Rap Song. The complete list of winners can be found at Grammy.com. |
