R&B crooner Trey Songz is itching at a big celebration. If his single “Can’t Be Friends” continues at the rate its going, the Virginia singer could top Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx and Maxwell for the longest running No. 1 song on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart. “Can’t Be Friends,” lifted from Songz’s latest effort ‘Passion, Pain, and Pleasure’ notched its thirteenth week at No. 1 on Thursday (Jan. 27), giving him a feat that only a few of R&B’s great has accomplished. Songz is on the chase for Mary J. Blige’s historical title of fifteen weeks after she logged the achievement in 2006 with her smash single “Be Without You.” Following behind the Queen of Hip Hop Soul is Maxwell’s “Pretty Wings,” Jamie Foxx’s “Blame It” and Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together,” all tied at fourteen. In related news, Trey Songz is gearing up for his Valentine’s “Love Faces Tour,” which kicks off February 11th in New York. |
