Kim Kardashian and rapper Kanye West marriage is now coming to an end
Each is famous in their own right, but for almost seven years they were in the limelight together as a married couple: for reality star Kim Kardashian and rapper Kanye West, the marriage is now coming to an end.
Kim and Kanye celebrated a dream wedding in Italy almost seven years ago – now Kim Kardashian (40) and Kanye West (43) are facing the end of their marriage. The US reality star has filed for divorce from the rapper.
The petition was received by the Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday, an employee of the court told Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
Kardashian’s spokeswoman, Christy Welder, confirmed to the US newspaper “USA Today” that the divorce petition had been filed. West’s spokes team did not initially respond to enquiries. There was also radio silence on the social media of the parents of four. Kardashian and West, nicknamed “Kimye” together, have four children: eldest daughter North is seven, followed by son Saint (5), daughter Chicago (3) and son Psalm, who turns two in May.
The celebrity portal “TMZ.com” reported on Friday that Kardashian had called in divorce expert Laura Wasser. The celebrity lawyer already stood by the TV star during her second divorce from athlete Kris Humphries. In 2011, she had been married to the professional basketball player for just 72 days. Between 2000 and 2004, Kardashian was married to music producer Damon Thomas.
The relationship with West made headlines from the start. In 2013, the musician asked her to marry him in a sports stadium in San Francisco – on Kim’s 33rd birthday. “Please marry me” was written on the huge scoreboard, accompanied by a large orchestra. Daughter North was already a few months old.
In May 2014, they celebrated a pompous wedding at the Forte Belvedere in Florence. Star tenor Andrea Bocelli sang at the bride’s entrance in front of 200 selected guests. Before that, the couple had already prepared for their wedding at a magnificent celebration in Versailles near Paris. West is said to have spared no expense for his first wedding.
Kardashian was not financially inferior to the superstar rapper. The long-running reality show “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” made Kim and her sisters Kourtney and Khloé famous. Kardashian has more than 200 million followers on Instagram. The superstar runs her own fashion, jewellery and make-up line. She also started training to be a lawyer in 2019. In recent years, Kardashian has campaigned for prison reform in the US.
Then, last year, headlines began piling up in the gossip press about a possible marital crisis for the couple. West caused a stir in July with a bizarre Twitter series that included accusations against his wife. His announcement of his intention to run for the US presidential election also caused confusion.
West has had mental health problems for years, according to media reports. In a 2019 cover story for Vogue magazine, Kim Kardashian mentioned that her husband suffers from bipolar disorder. Last July, she asked for sympathy for West: “He is a brilliant but complicated human being who, in addition to the pressures of being an artist and a black man, has experienced the painful loss of his mother and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that his bipolar disorder exacerbates,” she wrote on Instagram.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the rapper has mostly been staying at the family ranch in the US state of Wyoming, while Kardashian resides with the children in a luxury mansion near Los Angeles.
